The Parliament of India passed the “Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act” in the year 2013. The ACT provides protection against sexual harassment of women at workplace and for the prevention and redressal of complaints of sexual harassment and for the matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

We Gangamai College of Engineering, Nagaon, are committed to creating and maintaining an environment which is free of all forms of gender violence, sexual harassment, and discrimination on the basis of sex/gender. Following this, the institute is committed to uphold the Constitutional mandate ensuring the above-mentioned human rights of all those who fall within its jurisdiction. As directed by the act  Gangamai College of Engineering, Nagaon  has constituted “Internal Complaint Committee” to take care of these issues. The committee will be working in the strict framework as published in Gazette of India part I11, section 4, 1938, published by Ministry of Human Resource Development and University Grant Commission in 2016.

The objectives of the Internal Complaint Committee are as follows:

  • To create and maintain sate, healthy and supportive environment for women and girl students in the campus.
  • To address issues faced by women at work place.
  • To organize awareness programs related to these issues.
  • To take preventive steps towards protection of women staff/ students from sexual harassment in the college

Roles and Responsibility of the Committee members:

The committee in charge is required to perform the following Responsibilities

  • To organize workshops affecting women in general and especially in the following areas
    • Sensitization and gender equality on campus
    • Issues of women arising from societal concerns
    • Any other theme-based activities and events concerning significant issues of women
  • Committee members meet at least once in a semester or as per the necessity to discuss and resolve the grievances if any received in writing from the concerned students.
  • Committee members record the minutes of meetings and submit the copy of the same to the Campus Director and Principal.
  • To convey the decision of the committee to the aggrieved students by the chairman of the committee

To communicate the decision to Principal and higher authorities so that appropriate steps may be taken to prevent future occurrences.
